Commitment to Community Engagement Print E-mail

The National Capital Authority has approved and released a new consultation protocol as part of a document called 'Commitment to Community Engagement'. An exposure draft of this document was released at the NCA Public Forum in April 2010 and the NCA received a number of subsequent public submission in relation to content of that draft.

One of the action items identified in the new document 'Commitment to Community Engagement' is the creation of a register of key stakeholders. The target date for completion of that action item is 31 July 2010.

The register of key stakeholders will enable the NCA to quickly and easily make contact with groups who represent persons and parties interested in various aspects of the National Capital. Key stakeholders will be advised directly about projects and proposals which may be within their area of interest and they may be asked to provide comments on such matters during preliminary consultations processes.

Engagement with key stakeholders does not replace public consultation, but offers an efficient mechanism for seeking a broad range of views on a particular topic.

The register of key stakeholders will be published on the NCA website and is open to any representative group with a legitimate interest in the work of the National Capital Authority. Examples of key stakeholders include community associations, heritage groups, lake-based recreation clubs, industry groups and professional associations.

Key stakeholders should be aware that the name of the group and the groups 'area of interest' will be published on the website. Contact details of individuals associated with stakeholders will not be published on the NCA website, but will be used by the NCA in the course of communication with those groups. Contact details of individuals associated with stakeholder groups will also be made available to project proponents for the purposes of consultation and engagement.
